ORBITA was created as a revival of the Tia Lira typeface, designed by Manuel Pereira da Silva in 2003, which has only capital letters, in different weights and variations. The brief called for the design of a new typeface with a complete Latin character set, in variable format and for use in editorial contexts, presented in a booklet specimen.

ORBITA is a geometric sans serif typeface, strongly inspired by the round, geometric features of the original, seeking a balance between weights and widths to provide easy, clear reading. The star-shaped asterisk, taken from the source typeface, was also implemented; together with its other features, it led to the name and theme ORBITA.

The typeface is inspired by Futura (1927, Paul Renner), Avenir (1987, Adrian Frutiger) and Parafina (2021) by the Portuguese studio Feliciano Type. Combining the contemporary aspects of these typefaces, ORBITA takes their good examples to contribute to a better graphic solution.

It has 230 characters, with variation on the weight axis from 100 (light) to 700 (bold) and an intermediate master at 400 (regular), suitable for both running text and display, offering many layout possibilities. The typeface was designed with special attention to proportions and details, with soft, geometric forms, wide counters and strokes with slight differences in weight. The result is a balanced, well-structured design and an even textual color, keeping harmony between reading and aesthetics.
