Hoje cortei o cabelo
Roberta Miranda

Starting from an exercise in introspection about everything that surrounds us in the space outside and inside the body, Hoje Cortei o Cabelo is a book-hug. Aimed at a broad audience, although apparently for children and young people, it stems from the exploration of three different objects and what they represent. From that exercise came the words “claim”, “reunion” and “attachment”.

Using metaphors and playful illustrations, this project reflects on matter, made up of bodies that constantly expel bodies; on resilience in search of adaptation and movement; and, essentially, on the missed encounter that leads to a new encounter. The book draws on a childhood emotional universe [of its own] — from the seemingly abundant time with the grandmother to the orchard and the nails stained by fruit — as a way of portraying growth and the importance of youthful curiosity in the face of everyday life and self-support. Hair, finally, becomes the last catalyst of these emotions. Present in the title, it marks the deliberate trivialization of the importance that, for many, an act of farewell such as cutting one’s hair may represent. By highlighting this action, emphasized by the temporal marker of the word “today”, the work seeks to accompany the reader, where today is any day.
