Delira is a variable font developed from a typographic revival exercise inspired by the work of Manuel Pereira da Silva. The project resulted from redrawing and correcting the experimental characters of the Tia Lira typeface (2003), with the aim of creating a typeface suited to editorial contexts, combining high legibility at small sizes with the preservation of the original typeface’s experimental character.

The type family has five distinct weights (Light to Extra Black) and supports five languages, with a total of 174 characters. It also includes a set of 20 experimental alternative characters, designed for display use within the Delira family. For this project, 12 movable-type characters were 3D-printed for use with letterpress, and the typeface was explored through two type specimens: the first, explanatory, documents the history, the design process and the editorial application of the typeface; the second, interactive, allows the reader to explore the differences and similarities between selected characters in the design of the glyphs in different weights.
