Fritura: Tipo de letra e espécime
Daniel de Sousa, Ana Leite and Rita Vieira
Fritura is a variable, linear geometric sans serif typeface developed in the Type Design curricular unit. Its design arose from an attempt to revive the Tia Lira typeface by Manuel Pereira da Silva (2004), as part of the brief, while also seeking to introduce an authorial component.

Fritura aims to preserve a Portugueseness reflected in its name, a direct reference to Tia Lira (a typically Portuguese parental figure) and to one of the most recognized geometric typefaces of modernity — Futura. Unlike Futura, however, it is free to use — or “free” — and was therefore given the Portuguese name closest to that combination: Fritura.
Embodying the joy and warmth of popular festivals, Fritura has details that break the simplicity of this kind of typeface, reflected in some alternative characters and glyphs, notably the cursive s, which gives it display qualities. Our solution thus moves away from the neutrality of geometric typefaces in favor of a festive touch.
