Jeanne

Jeanne — Hugo Costa e Marta Cabral

Jeanne
Hugo Costa and Marta Cabral

Jeanne is a variable serif typeface inspired by the transition from the humanist forms of the seventeenth century to the rationalism of the eighteenth. The double-sided type specimen presents one variant on each side: Jeanne Book and Jeanne Slant. Drawing on the designs of Jean Jannon, the Fell Types and the work of Jean de Villeneuve for the Portuguese Royal Press, its ligatures and swashes evoke the texture of historical printed text. The name is a deliberate act of subversion, claiming a traditionally male field to reflect a female and queer perspective in design.
