Installations — Matilde Coelho e Rafael Pinho

Installations
Matilde Coelho and Rafael Pinho

Installations is a biannual magazine devoted to installation art in the contemporary scene, aimed at artists, curators and anyone interested in art and visual culture. Each issue explores a different aspect of this kind of work through photographs and interviews, serving as a platform to examine the relationship between art, space and people.

This issue focuses on inflatable installations: works made of air-filled forms that occupy space directly, transforming through movement, expansion and collapse. Their presence is both playful and disorienting, altering perception and how we inhabit our surroundings. Made of temporary, air-dependent material, these works introduce instability and transformation, in contrast with the solid forms of traditional sculpture.

The issue brings together contemporary artists, presented through interviews and visual documentation of their current approaches to inflatable structures. A final section revisits historical examples of similar practices, placing current work in dialogue with the past and offering a broader view of the ongoing evolution of inflatable installations.
