An editorial project for the Project course — a photo-documentary book about contemporary architecture in Portugal, focused on the cultural, social and environmental reflection behind each work.
The project draws on a selection of works published by ArchDaily, organizing texts, essays, photography and documentation around different dimensions of architecture, such as territory, culture, space, structure, materiality and archive.
Developing the publication meant alternating between the roles of editor and designer, from researching and selecting content to defining the editorial program and graphic language. The information structure and type system establish different hierarchies and levels of reading, articulating the various kinds of content throughout.
The relationship between editorial concept and its materialization extends to the physical object: on the cover, blind-embossed reliefs reinterpret architectural elements of the selected works, linking the content, its graphic representation and the book’s material dimension.
