As Quatro Casas
Inês V. Teixeira
For Illustration Contexts and Practices, the project began with the selection of three personal objects that became the starting point for an illustrated narrative: a childhood photograph, a Heidi DVD and a brace for double scoliosis. The ideas associated with them were, respectively, tradition and the stone house; grandfather’s house; support and enduring. A visual narrative was then developed around a collection of small stories that unfold across four houses, each tied to many memories, spaces and atmospheres.

The final object takes the shape of an asymmetrical house. All illustrations were made by hand in oil pastel and wax crayon, and all texts were hand-lettered, with some digital improvements and assembly in Adobe Photoshop.
The book explores nostalgia and memory, as well as the building of one’s own future.
