Form and freedom: Modernism and deconstruction in graphic design
Cláudia Martina
“Form and freedom” is a work produced for the Advanced Studies in Editorial Design and Typography curricular unit, supervised by Mário Moura, which sets out to explore a monochrome, purely typographic editorial object, without any non-typographic images, in order to explore the use of typography and its importance and visual interest in editorial and graphic design. From this brief came “Form and freedom: Modernism and deconstruction in graphic design”, a publication that explores both modernism and deconstruction in graphic design, as the title indicates. Several different typefaces were used, themselves deconstructed and edited to give the publication flow, interest and rhythm without the use of images, while keeping the concept of information hierarchy.
