Metaldri
50 anos da metalúrgica
Eunice Bastos

This personal project is a tribute to my family’s metalworks, Metaldri: a publication worthy of the company, its history and prestige, seeking to document its space and its works as objects of memory and reference. It directly quotes my mother’s job archives and her hand-drawn technical drawings through graph paper, which serves as the editorial construction grid for all the texts and images throughout the book. It has a varnished iron spine with hinges that allow the book to open, a detail that references the workshop’s work. The book is printed on recycled offset paper in a grayer tone, close to the papers scattered around the workshop, soiled by metal filings. All images appear in black and white, in contrast to the third chapter, which interrupts the publication with full spreads only of the workshop’s different types of metal, colors and textures, as a moment of visual excitement.

Finally, some works are documented, showing the work process from the drawings to the final stage of the work. As a mainly image-based publication, the captions are the most relevant paratexts: whenever possible they are left-aligned and state whether they refer to an image or a figure, while the page number sits at the central edges of the spread, doing without any kind of header or footer.
