Wrinkles — Ricardo Gomes

Wrinkles
Ricardo Gomes

Wrinkles is a non-literary publication exploring the experience and transformation brought about by time. The narrative unfolds as a cycle bringing together three dimensions — landscape, skin and artifacts — understood as surfaces on which time leaves distinct marks.

Landscape appears as a territory in continuous transformation, where erosion, wear and movement alter matter and its appearance. Skin, particularly the aging body, makes visible the passage of time on the individual, accumulating marks that are both physical and biographical. Artifacts introduce a dimension tied to memory and identity, preserving traces of use and pointing to specific periods and experiences.

In each of these dimensions time acts differently and at different scales, relating the monumental and the intimate, the natural and the human, the permanent and the ephemeral.

The publication forgoes a textual narrative, built entirely from the relationship between photography, archival reproductions and graphic elements. The sequence of images creates visual associations between materials, forms and marks, letting the reader construct the narrative.

Wrinkles offers a visual reflection on how time transforms, marks and gives meaning to things.
