Altares Não Religiosos
Joana Teles
Non-Religious Altars is an image-based publication that investigates what can constitute an altar outside the religious sphere: a horizontal surface, raised or at floor level, appropriated as a space for ritual, contemplation, focus or memory.

The project sets out to glorify these secular altars, stripped of any associated deity, bringing together a set of markedly domestic, everyday images.
The composition and decoration of each altar are treated with formal care, contrasting with the homemade nature of the objects and spaces photographed. This contrast between informal origin and careful visual treatment is the publication’s central axis.
