Drawing the Line — A Collection of Reflections Between Art and Design
Marta Cabral
Final project for the year-long Project course — an editorial project on a free theme in which the student takes on the roles of both editor and designer, developing an editorial object from ideation and conception through to print production.

This project seeks to understand design as a field of reflection and inquiry, not merely as a style, a discipline or a problem in search of a solution.
The publication gathers a selection of texts that reflect on the relationship between art and design. Rather than trying to draw a definitive line between the two, it presents different positions, arguments and perspectives built up over time.
It is printed with the four colors normally used to compose an image – cyan, magenta, yellow and black – each progressively revealed across the book’s sections, mixing with the others until all four overlap.
The color bars in the book’s margins make this system visible, letting the reader follow the gradual construction of the image. The printing process thus becomes an integral part of the project, reinforcing the idea of a continuous process, permanently under construction throughout the publication.
