Siglas poveiras: Etnografia poveira, escrita codificada e identidade individual.
Mariana Costa
This brief encouraged students to bring topics of personal interest into the scope of editorial design. So I decided to tell part of the history of my city, focusing on the Siglas Poveiras, a tradition that is falling into oblivion. This system arose as a response to illiteracy, and my aim is to revive this heritage for future generations, inspiring admiration for our cultural heritage.

The object gives these memories of the past the same vitality as the moment they were photographed, as if they were seen through the reader’s own eyes and were being remembered.
This archive is intended for the Poveiros, seeking to escape the stereotypes of research documents. That is, it is aimed not at researchers but at young people and future generations, taking a dynamic and visually appealing approach. The content compiles information from existing archives, complementing it visually to make it easier to understand, something that was missing from the objects on display on the subject.
The narrative creates a sense of rediscovery, with pages that evolve in sharpness and content. The content itself ranges from explaining the roots of Póvoa, covering its everyday life and culture, to explaining the rules for building the siglas as a form of writing, and their role within the community.
The object itself establishes a practical relationship with the reader, addressing questions of dynamics and presentation of the content. Hence the choice of rings, which make it easy to add pages and allow constant updates and revisits.
