Intemporais – Históricas lojas portuenses
Pedro Monteiro
This project was a response to the brief for the second semester of the Project curricular unit. “Intemporais – Históricas Lojas Portuenses” is a book that serves as an archive of photographs of some of the shops in the city of Porto. Its main aim is to give visibility to traditional commerce, a subject that has unfortunately been losing prominence.

For some years now, news of the closure of certain shops has become more and more frequent, whether because of payment difficulties, a lack of customers or strong competition from large retailers. Curious to learn more about these shops and, in turn, to get to know the city of Porto better, I decided to research them and combine one of my passions, photography, with my curiosity about the stories of these places.
“Intemporais” is a photobook that, to give the reader context, presents a brief description of each establishment. That text was written from an interview with the person in charge who was at the shop. In addition, at the end of the book there is a map so that readers can locate the shops and some of the main points of interest in Porto.
The main goal was a contemporary book with room to breathe, while still giving prominence to the photographs. It works as a coffee-table book, so that readers can fully enjoy its photographic record.
