The project is a book created from the plant gall (cecidia) herbarium of the Museum of Natural History and Science of the University of Porto, investigating the herbarium as a scientific archive and epistemological device.

The proposal stems from the need to document and reactivate this archive, treating galls not only as specimens but as records of relationships between plants and other organisms. This specificity challenges traditional classification systems centered on species identification, allowing the herbarium to be approached as an archive of interactions.

The editorial solution is based on scanning the specimens at actual size and preserving their taxonomic organization, carrying into the book the archive’s principles of cataloging and systematization. Formally, the editorial structure articulates scientific documentation and graphic representation, making visible the processes of selection, classification and organization that underpin the construction of knowledge.

The project thus contributes to the preservation and accessibility of this scientific heritage, exploring editorial design as a tool for mediation, interpretation and knowledge production.
