infografia Sálvia Elegans
Alice Alves, Ana Pinto and Fabiana Oliveira
For Graphic Design and Infographics, students were asked to create an infographic about an aromatic plant in the Serralves Garden, communicating botanical information in a visually engaging and scientifically rigorous way. The group chose pineapple sage (Salvia elegans).

The infographic is structured in several levels of reading and iconography, making the information accessible both to a general audience and to readers seeking more specific data on the species (origin, morphology, uses and curiosities). It was produced in Adobe Illustrator, with the plant illustration by Ana, a member of the group, ensuring a coherent and original visual language throughout.
Formally, it balances scientific rigor and aesthetic appeal through a clear visual hierarchy, illustrative iconography and a palette tied to the plant’s identity. This multi-level approach to visual communication contributes to science communication, promoting good information-design practice — simplifying complex content without compromising accuracy — and reinforcing graphic design as a mediator between scientific knowledge and the public.
