The specimen, made for the Type Design curricular unit, is the culmination of our quotation of Elizabeth Friedlander\u2019s work. It describes her patterns and Elizabeth Friedlander\u2019s original typeface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The typeface Friedlander Neue, presented in the specimen, is not only a way of preserving the memory of an important typographer but also a tribute to all women designers and typographers who, despite the constraints of their social and political contexts, fought for equality and for their work to be valued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The specimen opens with a short poem by Francis Meynell dedicated to Elizabeth and her lovely face (typeface). A red insert presents the original drawings of the typeface and the results of the group\u2019s experimentation through drawing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next comes the display of the characters, in a direct comparison between large and small scale, in the different weights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new section on red paper presents more technical drawings, addressing the dimensions, widths and heights of the different parts of the glyph anatomy, and details, through enlargements and close-ups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
