The Cinema Of Agn\u00e8s Varda<\/strong>

Developed for the Project course, the book began with the choice of a theme and a text that would later give rise to an artifact. The theme is the cinema of Agn\u00e8s Varda, and the text is Delphine B\u00e9n\u00e9zet\u2019s The Cinema of Agn\u00e8s Varda: Resistance and Eclecticism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project explores the idea of \u201cgleaning\u201d. In The Gleaners and I (2000), Varda relates the act of gleaning to her own creative process: with a curious, attentive eye she gathers ordinary everyday things and turns them into material for her films.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From this concept, the aim was a reading experience based on discovery, discontinuity and the unexpected. Images are set against the text with tight margins, elements drift to the edges of the page, and the page numbers \u2014 deliberately loud and never in a fixed place \u2014 heighten the sense of unpredictability. All this tension and discontinuity recreate the idea of \u201cstumbling upon\u201d things, like Varda\u2019s chance encounters with everyday objects, such as the heart-shaped potato she finds in The Gleaners and I. The lightweight paper reinforces the experience, allowing show-through and overlaps between pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
